But there was fear there in her eyes. Scully saw it. Scully maintained her unflustered facade just long enough to completely close the door. Instantly, she did an quick impromptu happy dance at being able to FINALLY sock it to Diana. Scully cleared her throat, stilled, and tried to wipe the grin off her face. Now to deal with Mulder. She knew now that he'd been manipulated into coming here, but it still didn't negate the fact that he had ditched her yet again. Scully knocked firmly on what she assumed was Mulder's door. "Go away, Diana! I'm not interested! Haven't I made that clear?!" He jerked open the door and yelled that last part right in Scully's face before he realized who exactly it was that stood before him. "Scully!" His face broke into a wide smile, instantly replaced by worry as his mind did the mental gymnastics to realize what must have brought her all this way. "You gonna invite me in or make me stand here while you stare some more?" she said snottily. In her head though she was trying not to let her mouth hang open at the sight of him in sweatpants, gray t- shirt and mussed hair. Mulder stepped aside, head bowed, and waved her in to the room. She immediately stepped to the connecting door, knelt down and retrieved the disc lying there. "What's that?" Mulder said and reached for it. Scully put her finger to her lips - shhh - and gestured for pen and paper. Mulder brought her a legal pad and a pen from his briefcase and watched over her shoulder quizzically as she wrote. "Room might be bugged or SHE might have her ear to the wall. Thin motel walls. Have lots to tell you. Found out some things you should know. Will punish you for ditching me later. Now, you suggest we go somewhere and grab some dinner," she wrote quickly. "Ya know, Scully," Mulder said louder than neccessary until Scully's grimace cued him to tone it down, "Now that you're here, my appetite is back. But I still don't want this pizza I ordered," she glanced to the box on his bed, "How about I take you out to eat so that I can apologize for ditching you?" "I guess I'm willing to listen, Mulder," she retorted, "Get dressed and let's go." "Yes ma'am," he mock saluted and headed for his suitcase. ********************************************************************** ***** The barbeque chicken leg fell from Mulder's fingers with a squishy thump on his plate. "She WHAT?!" Scully finished chewing the bite of chicken in her mouth and wiped her lips daintily. "You heard me correctly, Mulder. She's attempting to get back in good graces with the CSM by destroying the X-files. You were suposed to be the sacrificial lamb...after she'd had a little fun with you first." "That's all on the disc?" He recovered his own chicken and continued eating. Scully nodded, "The idiot wrote it all in her journal." "Oh, no offense Mulder. I know you used to be serious-" "Maybe I was, but she never was. Don't worry about it, Scully. I just can't believe this. I knew she wanted us to pick up where we left off, but I never dreamed that she was involved in the....you know, the WHOLE thing," he gestured widely, encompassing the 'great conspiracy.' Scully shrugged, saying nothing. She had suspected as much all along. "Well, for now, she's not a threat. Not as long as we possess this," Scully said, waving the disc and then putting it into her inside jacket pocket, "I don't want to talk about the 'Foul Miss Fowley' any more this evening, Mulder." Mulder choked at that; shocked and delighted at Scully's pun. "Scully!" he laughed, "How long have you been saving that one?" She grinned. "A looong time, Mulder. A looong time." ********************************************************************** ****** The two drove Scully's rental car back to the motel to gather his things. Diana waited for them in Mulder's room. "What are you doing in here, Diana?" Mulder asked, exasperated. "The redhead isn't the only one who can pick locks," Diana answered snidely. Mulder's eyes narrowed as Scully put a hand on his arm. "It isn't worth it, Mulder. You don't have to defend my honor. It isn't neccessary; I can defend my own if needed," Scully smiled at Diana, showing her teeth, "I think she knows that." Diana caught herself before she took an involuntary step back. "I'm not here to scuffle with you, DANA. I'm here because I want the disc back. Now." "Disc? What disc?" Scully blinked innocently as Mulder hid his amusement by heading for the luggage and stuffing clothes into it unceremoniously. "You know what disc. It is my possession and you had no right to take it. You broke into my room, went through my things, and took it. Your SOURCE," she said as though tasting something nasty. "You're right, Diana. Maybe you should file a complaint with someone. And then maybe I could show someone at the F.B.I. the contents of the disc," Scully brushed past her, ignoring the other woman's reddening face. "You little b-!" Diana flew at her, but Scully was ready and swung around with a solid punch to the taller woman's nose before Diana could even complete the insult. Mulder stood stunned. "Remind me to never make you angry," he finally said as Scully waved her hand in pain. "Well, it wasn't classy and I think I may have broke my hand, but it got the job done," Scully replied calmly, still shaking her hand back and forth. "My nose!" Diana screamed from the floor, "I think you broke my nose, you little-" "Uh-uh, Diana. That's what got you in trouble in the first place," Mulder warned, looking down at her with his arms crossed over his chest. Diana glared up at him, but fell silent and tried to rise from the floor, while cradling her bleeding nose with one hand. "I could take a look at that for you," Scully offered as though they were discussing a case. "No, thank you," Diana snarled, "I've HAD it with you two. Keep the disc. I'm through with this." She hobbled from the room and slammed the door behind her. Mulder and Scully regarded one another for a moment. Mulder whooped suddenly and grabbed Scully by the waist, spinning her around. Setting her back down, he took her uninjured hand and pulled it into the air. "Undefeated and still champion," he announced to the room, "DANA SCULLY!!!" He made cheering crowd noises and started singing the theme to 'Rocky.' "Mulder. Mulder," Scully tried, "MULDER!!" Mulder stopped dancing and singing to give her his attention. "This still doesn't get you off the hook for ditching me, you know." "Would sucking up help?" He said, half-jokingly. "Actually, yes, it would. I feel like being pampered and catered to after all my hard work today," Scully said to him, eyes twinkling. "Mulder, I know you think you're protecting me when you take off without me, but I wish you'd cut it out. Haven't I just proven to you that I can take care of myself?" He looked down, "Old habits die hard, Scully. All I can do is promise to TRY not to be overprotective of you, ok?" She sighed, "Fair enough." Mulder's gaze came back up to hers, "Now, you said something about being pampered?" ********************************************************************** ****** The two agents packed up Mulder's things and headed for the OTHER motel, not wanting to share a wall with Diana. After checking in, Scully donned one of Mulder's t-shirts and climbed into bed while Mulder made a run to the store. He returned with a grocery bag and a sly smile on his face. "Whatcha got in there?" Mulder started taking the items out of the bag and setting them on the table. "Oh, just things with which to pamper milady," he said mock casually. "Where did you find something open?" "This town has a 24-hour Walmart,' he said as he stacked the items on the small table. "I bring you scented bubble bath, chocolate, and massage oils," he watched for her reaction. She stretched and then stood from the bed. "Very well," she said, taking his hand, picking up two of the items and starting for the bathroom, "We'll start with the bubble bath and chocolates and go from there." "We?" he said with an almost squeak of glee in his voice. She arched a seductive eyebrow at him and smiled slowly. He felt happiness swell in his chest. He loved her SO much. "Aw, Scully, you KNOW what I like!" ********************************************************************** ***** TADA! Happiness returns and all is well.:) And you were worried....
